Deputy of the Year

Former Recipients

2008 Deputy of the Year

Sergeant Bob Darby was busy during 2008. He led the Reserves and Mounted Patrol units of the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office while he also directed the very successful multi-agency Drug Task Force. Sergeant Darby also handled the TCSO operations at the 2008 Tulsa State Fair, coordinating the assignments of over fifty deputies during that two-week period, and organized transportation for the six-day CALEA Conference in December, arranging tours and transportation for hundreds of the participants.

The Drug Task Force is made up of representatives from several Tulsa County law enforcement agencies. In his primary role as the Project Director of that unit, Bob is responsible for coordinating operations and for providing training to officers from TCSO and other agencies. Besides being available twenty-four hours a day for leading the Drug Task Force, Bob is also charged with statistical reporting, and speaking to the public, the media, and to the groups that provide grant funding.

Sergeant Darby is the first to volunteer for work beyond his normal duties. An example is his willingness to take over the Mike Clancy Toy Drive last year after the normal coordinator resigned from TCSO. Although the drive began three weeks later than normal, Sergeant Darby successfully pulled it together and assisted 48 families, with 123 children, making sure they had a wonderful Christmas.

Sergeant Darby is a leader in his efforts to provide employee support. TCSO has a leave sharing program for personnel who need additional time off for handling a serious personal or family illness. Bob frequently checks to see if there is a Sheriff’s Office employee that he can share his earned leave time with. He doesn’t ask “who or why”, he just donates what he can on their behalf; Bob has donated hundreds of hours to his fellow employees.

Sergeant Bob Darby demonstrates personal qualities daily, through his actions in and out of uniform, which are admirable. He is compassionate and considerate, while maintaining high work ethics and moral standards. Bob is an example of the kind of person that should be recruited to become a deputy and the kind of deputy who should be recognized as Deputy of the Year.

Reserve Deputy of the Year

Former Recipients

2008 Reserve Deputy of the Year

Reserve Deputy Joe Walker is a frequent presence at the Sheriff’s Office. He has been assisting TCSO for the past several years – day and night. During 2008, Joe gave almost 800 hours to supporting the Drug Task Force and by participating in a majority of the reserve functions and events. Joe has contributed by performing vehicle maintenance for the Reserves and SWAT units, by supervising inmate work crews and as a uniformed officer knocking on doors for the Drug Task Force. He is always ready to step in wherever necessary.

Deputy Walker is respected by his peers and represents the Sheriff’s office well with the citizens of Tulsa County. His attention to detail and sense of responsibility are important in emergencies. He has a caring demeanor, a friendly attitude, and an honest approach to life, which makes him easy to work with. Anyone would be glad to be his friend and we are proud of our newest Reserve Deputy of the Year.

Citizen of the Year

2007 Citizen of the Year -  Patsy Nye

Patsy Nye was named the Citizen of The Year for 2007 by Sheriff Glanz.

She began volunteering at the Sheriff’s Office in 2002 and her willingness to help in many areas is what makes her so valuable. She has assisted with special events and in the administrative and Internal Affairs areas. Patsy has been working with Chaplain Nelda Bloom for the past couple of years in an effort to revise and update our Basic Chaplain Academy instruction materials.

Her dedication to the Sheriff’s Office and her eagerness to give back to the community is to be commended, and are the reasons she was selected as Citizen of the Year. We are fortunate to have her as a part of our team.
