MS. ZAIDA KEPFORD - Citizen of the Year
Ms. Kepford
, a former lawyer from Mexico City, is now a U.S. citizen and operates a language translation business.
During 2009, the David L. Moss Criminal Justice Center was undergoing numerous inspections by various agencies. Many inspectors were concerned because our prisoner related forms were not available in Spanish. Zaida was highly recommended by local attorneys to assist us with the task of translating our forms into proper Spanish. Ms. Kepford wanted to volunteer her services to the Tulsa County Sheriff s Office, believing she would be making a great contribution to the Hispanic prisoners incarcerated in our jail. As our relationship with her grew, she became very active in building bonds and bridges between our office and numerous ethnic groups throughout Tulsa County.
She is now a certified District Court Translator, which enables her to assist with verbal translation at the jail facility, as well as other divisions within the Sheriff s Office.
